. I am a strong believer of independent learning and that children should be encouraged to learn for themselves in a controlled environment. In support to my application I would like to highlight the following experiences and values which I could bring to your school.
On teaching practice I have worked in a mixed ability reception/ year one class of 24 children. I am familiar with the ‘Early year’s foundation stage’ document as well as the ‘primary national strategy’ and ‘national curriculum’. I have been given the opportunity to teach ‘Forest School’ lessons and develop their outdoor education, which has been really enjoyable. A lot of the teaching took place in the ‘outdoor classroom’ which allows for children to learn in a wider context allowing them to enjoy and achieve in a variety of different ways. I would be keen to become a ‘Forest school’ leader and attend relevant training in order to do so. My final teaching practice was in a three form entry year one class of 22 children, working with EAL children. I have been responsible for the weekly planning throughout the practice. I have carried out detailed assessments which I have used to inform my planning for differentiated activities and worked with the classroom assistant to ensure that the needs of the children were met and to ensure that the children meet their potential. I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement and developed a good, trusting relationship with the children. I have made a lot of happy memories and created a feeling of fulfilment. I have particularly enjoyed seeing the children progress as learners and socially. I have been given the opportunity to observe the nursery and other classes within the infant school, which has allowed me to view where the children come from and move on to. I have attended meetings about the safe-guarding of children and feel able to promote the welfare of children and young people. I feel that the classroom environment is the most important factor in creating a positive atmosphere where children are able to feel safe and valued. It is important that the classroom should reflect the importance of the work the children do, and therefore I strive to make the most out of displays, not only to display their work but used as a tool to develop their learning, by making displays interactive as well as very visual. It is important that the children recognise that they are valued and that they should be proud of their achievements. I am keen to promote good behaviour management skills and enthusiastic in applying innovative ideas and resources to do so. I believe that many behaviour issues relate to how the children are feeling, and have used a feelings board to help identify any emotions that may affect the children throughout the day. It allows for any issues raised to be dealt with and allowing for children to feel safe, to be able to enjoy being in a learning environment and to also make a positive contribution. I am studying PE as my dissertation subject, and can offer this as my strength. I have enjoyed teaching PE and participating in sporting activities, and hope that I can pass on this enjoyment to the children. I would really like to run school teams and sporting clubs in the future. I am reliable, friendly and enthusiastic teacher who thrives to gain the children’s potential. I strongly believe in making learning as fun as possible, and to use play activities as a basis to children learning. I am willing to listen to advice and opinions from colleagues and act upon feedback to develop my own professional development. I am keen to learn much more for myself by working with new people and children. I hope that this and the values and experiences outlined will provide some indication of the suitability for the post. I will be attending a first aid course for paediatric first aid and epi-pen training in May-July. This is a value that I would also be able to offer to the school. I have completed all relevant QTS tests and currently still studying at Worcester University, due to finish in June 2009. |
