EDUCATION
I am eligible to work in the UK without any restrictions and have passed the MSc Environmental Biology postgraduate degree programme that I have been studying at the University of Wales Swansea. Prior to this in 1993 and 1994, I had obtained specialist qualifications at the University of Zimbabwe for teaching Sixth Form Biology. Initially at Belvedere Teachers’ College, Zimbabwe, 1985 to 1988, I was equipped with both teaching methods and the requisite Science content for implementing the curriculum to students of all abilities. EXPERIENCE My experience is as follows: Science teaching abroad –15 years, with 8 years A-Level Biology teaching inclusive; and UK teaching across schools in South Wales – nearly 3 years. The latter has given me understanding of the National Curriculum and the learning requirements of the 11 to 18 age range As well as characteristics of high quality teaching and effective learning. I have taught A-Level Biology for more than 8 years using the University of Cambridge Overseas Examinations syllabus. This coupled with my UK experience makes me consider myself well experienced in understanding, interpreting, and effectively implementing the National Curriculum at various levels of Secondary School Science/Biology instruction. Thus my knowledge and understanding of current educational issues including national policies, priorities and legislation have been enhanced, especially developing and delivering relevant courses at KS3, KS4 and A-Level. Also as a former GCE “O” Level Science public examination marker and team leader overseas, I am considerably competent concerning objectivity, assessment and recording of pupils’ written work. TEACHING AND LEARNING Using my past experience I commit myself to maintaining the standards achieved by the pupils as I teach the subject(s) with good interpersonal communication skills – written/verbal/non-verbal, good humour, and boundless energy to pupils of all backgrounds across the ability and age range. Often, I have aimed to lead, motivate and develop pupils academically by setting home learning tasks regularly and marking books in accordance with school policy, thereby promoting institutional aims and values. Of importance, I have contributed effectively to the promotion of highest levels of learning within the department by making my instructional strategies relevant to the pupils’ needs and supporting a positive ethos of continuous improvement. I believe in getting the best out of every child irrespective of aptitude, background and age by making the lessons enjoyable and provoke learner-centred discovery, STAFFING & RESOURCES Creating an atmosphere of high expectations for the school community and parents as well as working in partnership with fellow teachers have been some of my priorities. I use assessment to inform future lessons and subject development, ICT as a teaching tool, and place substantial emphasis on cross-curricular criteria such as Literacy and Numeracy. Essentially I aim to produce informative, helpful and accurate reports to parents and the department. I give due regard to Health and Safety issues during my duty execution and have demonstrated flexibility and imaginativeness in developing new ideas and resources. Also I stand willing to undertake any pastoral and other duties required of me, as well as any in-service courses made available for my professional betterment to the ultimate benefit of the pupils. PERSONAL QUALITIES I will be enthusiastic and available to contribute actively to the school’s extra-curricular activities such as choir, debating and educational trips as well as attending all calendared meetings even with parents. My health is sound and I have tried my level best to show good attendance, punctuality, self-organization, and a high standard of professional self-presentation in dress/appearance/administration and behaviour in arrange of challenging situations. More often than not, I have worked under pressure and been able to meet deadlines. Thank you for your favourable consideration and on receiving a reply from you I shall be particularly grateful |
