I’m in my final year at University and I am studying theology alongside my BAQTS. I have many hobbies that include playing a variety of sports such as football, tennis and snooker. My other hobbies including reading books, going to watch live sports and travelling around various countries throughout the world.
My desire to become a teacher initially began when I spent a week in a primary school as part of work experience in Year 9. While in the sixth form I worked on a one to one basis with a younger pupil to develop her reading skills. I found an immense pleasure witnessing the development of her skills. Since then I have enjoyed working in a variety of school settings including after school clubs, ICT groups and as a class teacher on my placements. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and find it extremely rewarding. During my school placements I have always held high expectations for everyone in my class. I always remind the children of what I expect from them both in their work and behaviour. I believe that the best way of maximising learning opportunities for children is through cross curricular links. This is one of the most important tools to use in a classroom as it can focus the attention of the children through a variety of ways. I believe that an interactive approach is a great way for children to learn new things. I encourage children to participate and always aim to create an environment in which the children feel comfortable and ready to get involved. I believe that a variety of different forms of assessment is needed to enable development of the children including peer assessment. I have taught a range of lessons across the national curriculum. In my lessons I aim to vary my approaches so that all learning styles are met. During my first placement I set up an Olympic games month through which we covered a range of subjects including the history of the Olympic games all the way through to active participation in our own school version of the Olympic games. I have also taken part in specific weeks set up by my University such as ICT in action week and inclusion week. In those weeks I have organised a variety of activities including a ‘News’ report for an assembly as well as a topic on the Mary Rose which was particularly useful for working with children that had special educational needs. One of my strongest qualities is the ability to reflect and act on professional advice offered to me by teachers and university staff alike. I have good classroom and behavioural management techniques. I have always been able to establish a good working relationship with pupils and other adults in the classroom and beyond. I also have demonstrated my ability to create a good learning environment whereby children feel confident to ask and discuss questions around the focussed topic. I am extremely able with ICT and also very good at sports. I am a qualified football referee and I hope to undertake a football coaching course in the near future. I am always looking for new ways of developing my skills and look forward to ongoing professional development. Over the next few years I look forward to developing my teaching and general professional skills. I also hope to be able to undertake after school clubs especially in relation to sport as this is a natural area of personal interest and enjoyment. In the longer term I hope to be in a position to undertake a range of responsibilities that would one day lead to a position within a management team of a school I hope you will seriously consider my application and I look forward to an opportunity to expand on any of the points above or beyond. |
