I enjoy getting to know children so that I can gain their attention with lesson plans that are tailored to the interests of the children, so as to motivate and stimulate learning. I feel that children learn faster and are more likely to retain information that was presented in an interesting and fun way, plus it is more enjoyable for me to teach a group of children who are involved with their learning. I have always loved children and ensuring their well being is key to this through the provision of an education that they enjoy.
I specialised in Early Years because this is the begininng of a childs education and I feel that it is important to begin the process in a positive way. However, I enjoy teaching all age phases as children are always learning. I went to university in Birmingham and enjoyed the challenges that teaching in a big city had to offer. One of the biggest challenges was the immense variety of abilities and ethnic backgrounds of the children; many of the classes I taught had a high rate of children with English as a second language, but this provided many interesting opportunities for a different approach to teaching drawing on the varied experiences of the children. Soon after qualifying from university I chose to travel around Australia for a year, and returned in December 2009. Since then I have taken a temporary position in a supermarket whilst I looked for a suitable position in a teaching role. My aim now is to get started in the teaching profession, with my own class to provide the quality lessons that I know I am capable of. I enjoy using the interactive whiteboard to engage children, and providing a variety of teaching methods keeps children motivated and that is my main incentive. |
