Public Profile: I am currently in my last year at Newman University College on a Bachelor of Education teacher training course with qualified teacher status, with a view to obtaining my first teaching post.

Throughout my course I have had the experience of teaching most year groups throughout key stages 1 and 2. These have included the year groups 2, 5 and 4 for block placements. As well as teaching these year groups I have also taught years 7 and 8 during an eco-themed week and Nursery and Reception during Creative ICT in Action Week.

My experience also includes working with children of all abilities including those for whom English is an additional language, those who are on the gifted and talented register and also those who are on the special educational needs register. This has included children who have additional needs such as dyslexia, poor reading and writing skills and those who are on the autistic spectrum. When planning lessons, I have also had to take into account the varying experiences of pupils and their backgrounds.

During my school experiences I have undertaken many responsibilities as a classroom teacher. These have included attending staff meetings, parents’ evenings, taking assemblies, and taking part in thematic weeks and after school clubs.

I have also kept detailed records of assessment for the children I teach, and have used target setting, level recording and Assessing Pupils Progress records.

During my time in school I have had the opportunity to observe and use many teaching and behavioral strategies. These have allowed me to develop those which I feel are more beneficial to the children. I have also had the opportunity to teach cross-curricula, following the International Primary Curriculum. As well as this I have had the opportunity to teach a range of National Curriculum subjects.

I have high expectations of myself and the children that I teach. I feel strongly about positive reinforcements and praise and believe that this makes an effective behavioral strategy. I also feel strongly about target setting as this is the only way pupils and I will learn and be able to move forward. During my third placement I introduced several positive reinforcements. This included star-of-the-day and -week as well as certificates to encourage the children to learn their times tables.

I have pursued other education and experiences to develop further my teaching career. These include taking part in ‘My Money Week’ in which I team-taught a year 3 class on financial awareness. I have also qualified in, and renewed my certificate of, first aid. My interests include the arts in which I play the violin to a grade 5 standard, and also play the piano, the recorder, the Irish tin whistle and the flute.

My interests also include crafts such as card making, scrap book making and jewellery making. I have organized and held jewellery parties selling many of the pieces I make.

I have also taught myself to knit and French knit and am currently learning how to crochet. I have also made my own clothes, such as skirts and dresses. These skills will enable me to provide the children I teach with a wider variety of skills.

Currently I am learning British Sign Language through an online course; this will enable me to have some communication with those in the deaf community.

I am also a keen reader and will read both adult and children’s books. I am passionate about reading and believe in reading to a class.

From a young age I have wanted to teach. This has enabled me to gain many opportunities in a school setting from an early age. This has included taking part in a mentoring programme at my local first school. I am a regular teacher in my Church’s Sunday School and Youth Group and have helped to lead Children’s Study Days.

As you can see, I am a very creative person. Throughout my 3 years at Newman I have made many of my own resources. These have included worksheets, certificates, number fans, clocks and educational games such as loop cards. As well as this I find that ICT is a particular strength of mine, especially creating presentations which children enjoy and learn from. I find that the use of my resources and ICT skills have enabled me to make the lessons I teach more interesting, motivating and relevant to children.

During my third placement I organized an afternoon session where we sampled food which the Israelites would have eaten at the time of the Exodus, known as the Passover meal. This involved making sure there were no allergies in the class, sending a letter home to parents and organizing the food to be eaten. Children enjoyed this session and were eager to ask questions.

I am interested in inclusion and believe that where possible all children should be included in school life. I feel strongly about the voice of pupil’s within the school community as well as the classroom. This I find is achieved through a school council.

I am eager to pursue the new primary curriculum as well as creative and cross-curricula approaches. I am also keen on different learning environments such as forest schools.

In my teaching career I look forward to continuing my professional development. I am also looking forward to gaining experience from colleagues and sharing what I have gained throughout my time at Newman.

I am an organized person, which I feel is paramount when teaching. I enjoy working as a team member and contributing to the wider school life. I also consider myself to be very good when planning lessons and thinking my own ideas and activities or even adapting activities to suit my needs and the needs of my class.

I am an enthusiastic teacher who believes that every child should be able to reach their own potential. I passionately believe that I can make a difference to the lives of the children that I teach. Above all I am committed and motivated to teach. I consider myself to be a very patient person and to have an approachable manner with colleagues, children and parents.

In conclusion I am a hard working and enthusiastic teacher with a love of teaching and learning. I am also committed to taking a wider part in the rest of the school and feel that I would make an excellent candidate for the job at Parkfield Community School. I therefore submit myself to you as a firm candidate.
