I am currently looking for a part time teacher of French and/or Spanish position in London. I believe that both my professional, and my own personal experience make me an ideal candidate for such a post.
As I have outlined on my curriculum vitae, I graduated from university in France with a Master’s degree in English and Film and after completing a postgraduate Diploma in teaching French as a foreign language, I decided to embark on a career in education in England. During my studies in France, I was already working as a teacher both in the primary and secondary education sector and when I moved to London, I enjoyed two highly rewarding years as a language assistant at Sacred Heart School (a useful grounding as the Ofsted judgement upon the school was outstanding). In 2008, I also got the opportunity to teach music technology at North West Kent College, a very fruitful experience, as I organised several successful workshops for music students. In 2009 I was accepted onto the Graduate Teacher Programme, organised by CILT (graded outstanding by Ofsted in 2009), with the aim of becoming a qualified MFL teacher in the UK. I obtained my first full-time post as French and Spanish teacher at Sacred heart School in September 2009 and I will gain QTS in June 2010. Being a genuine native speaker, I think I have an outstanding understanding of French language and culture. I am able to teach French at all levels from Year 7 to A-level, and I feel I can help students prepare efficiently for GCSE, Cambridge iGCSE, A-level and Oxbridge entrance. I can also teach Spanish up to KS4. At the moment, I teach French and Spanish to groups covering the whole spectrum of a comprehensive school as well as Year 5 and Year 6 classes in St Joseph, Sacred Heart’s feeder primary school. I enjoy teaching these disparate groups and aim to provide them with material and teaching tailored to their needs. I enjoy teaching within multicultural London schools and I am aware of the varying needs of children. This year I have received training on SEN and on supporting pupils with EAL. As a language teacher I think that embracing different cultures within the classroom is very positive. Although Sacred Heart doesn’t have a sixth form I am also interested in teaching this age range. I got the opportunity to teach a Year 13 class during my second school placement this year, and my lessons were graded as outstanding by the school’s Head of Department. Moreover working as a lecturer in North West Kent College has helped me develop my teaching to create interesting and challenging resources adapted for young adult learners. During my diploma in teaching French as a foreign language I have developed expertise in using authentic material in the classroom. All of this I can use to effect to provide outstanding planning and teaching for key Stages 3 and 4 as well as for AS and A-level, creating a varied and stimulating learning experience for all pupils. As I have been teaching in a Language College for three years, I am used to work with the most up to date technology and I am confident in using a multi media language laboratory. I use ICT regularly as a teaching tool to enhance language learning and independent work. I always aim to provide my students with a varied and stimulating learning experience, arousing Intellectual curiosity to achieve academic excellence. Usually, I have a good relationship with my students for which I get very positive feedback from my tutor at CILT and I think my pupils really enjoy their language lessons. I try to be thorough and consistent with regards to the expectations I have of them inside and outside the classroom and to develop their potential and help them achieve high academic standards. My approach is considered to be calm, respectful, but firm. I like to consider my students’ individual needs and encourage their own and independent learning. I have developed a pastoral role within my school and I am co-tutoring a Year 11 class. This experience has showed me that getting involved in pastoral care is important, as I consider it is a valuable way to get to know the school and the pupils better. I enjoy running extra curricular activities. In my first two years at Sacred Heart, I organised a French club for Year 7 pupils, based on learning French through games and music. I now run a workshop for year 11 G&T pupils, based on French culture and aiming at preparing them for AS/A2 curriculum. I will be happy to contribute to the life of the school I will work in, as I think it is a great opportunity to motivate students and to create tailored activities to cater with particular needs. In addition, having experience as a camp coordinator I will be happy to participate in programmes of trips and exchanges abroad On top of being a linguist, I am also a musician, and I am very active in the community as I do voluntary work for the London based charity OKIDO, a science and art magazine for children aged 2 to 7. I work for OKIDO as music supervisor and I run workshops from them, creating songs and activities which are very successful among our young audience. I am convinced it can be interesting to exploit this asset in language teaching as well. I am now in the second half of my training year and I receive positive feedback from students, colleagues and parents. I have a genuine enthusiasm for my subject as well as excellent behaviour management skills and I always attempt to inspire my pupils with my enthusiasm and to enhance their motivation and enjoyment of language learning by making it relevant and interesting. As a member of my department, I like to share materials as well as ideas and teaching strategies. I am open to advice and I am keen on acquiring new skills and managing new responsibilities. I am eager to enter the next stage of my teaching career and to join a team of MFL colleagues in a creative and dynamic department. I am looking for a post, which would demand my experience in teaching as well as my positive attitude, enthusiasm and high academic standards. I hope that I will be able to share my professional skills with you. I look forward to hearing from you and will gladly supply additional information if required. |
