Public Profile: I am currently undertaking a PGCE in primary education. I'm due to graduate in June this year. I specialise in early years but I would also consider teaching in key stage two.

I have a good first degree in community education and two national qualifications in drama. Both skills have been extremely valuable during my teaching practice. I was able to use my knowledge of drama in my planning. I was also able to take responsibility for running an after school club. My degree provided me with the skills that I needed when working with young people and families. I found I was able to interact with parents and carers very easily due to the nature of my degree.

I'm a very creative person and I try to adopt a cross curricular approach in my planning where possible.

Since the commencement of my course I've been on two teaching practices. The first of these was a split year one and two class. I enjoyed this as it was a challenge to plan and differentiate the work. I learned how to set work appropriately to suit all levels of learning. I also realised the importance of seeing each child as an individual and setting work with this in mind. This placement provided a solid first teaching experience and helped me to develop quickly as a practicing teacher.

My second teaching practice was in a reception class. I really enjoyed this placement. The planning was very different to key stage one and the lessons were less formal. A lot of the teaching was play based. I found my drama skills to be very useful on this teaching practice.

My teaching practices have provided me with two very different ways of planning and assessing children's learning. I feel fortunate to be proficient in both foundation and key stage one planning.
